100 THINGS// Poster// Population

This is now my seventh product and I am going to go back to poster because quite simply they are fun and fact full of information. I could do a shopping bag like I was stating earlier but I'd rather not at that seems slightly boring. Of course they day might come when I am to design a shopping bag but It's not what I enjoy- This poster is again a response to the slave population in different regions & countries. I am going back to this information because its so reliable and strong.

Finished design. I recently thought that maybe colour has a big part to play when it comes to designing info graphics. To me as long as it makes sense. Having this red circle for Asia and Pacific is conventional and makes sence. Red connoted danger and death, fire, loads of different things. I have made it so that when to audience looks at the bottom and reads please visit this website (which is in the same colour) they will be automatically remembered of that horrible number

100 THINGS// HOTDOG BOOK

I have decided that for my final 10th design I am going to make a hotdog book. Hotdog books are very easy and work very well. It won't be anything special i don't think but if it was on the market it would be a hand out to get the public interested and involved. My last hotdog book for the fair was when folded A5 but i am temped to make this one a6 when folded. I am worried I won't find enough information to put in it but if thats the case I can always use text as a filler. I know this is my final design and I should be concentrating on my other 4-5 designs but this will be on going for the next week. Printing is at 11am on FRIDAY and the module hand in is next wednesday. A lot to do! I think doing the Hotdog book again will be good practise for me. My last hotdogs were printed poorly and and this was due to poor cutting- I now know how to avoid mistakes like my last ones. This will hopefully redeem my last one and make up for all the petty mistakes!

A3// FITTED CORRECTLY-

I'm slightly worried I might end up losing marks for using the same designs on different products. I now have these charts across 5 designs and this could be classed as repition. This comes down to my 100 THINGS. Most of my re-search I found to be quite useless and I can't see my self using any of the stuff I found towards the beginning of the brief.

The front cover is on the back, this has been changed and saved.

I am going to leave the back blank, no real reason I just beleive and text might be unnecessary

BACK

Simple but once printed I believe this will be very effective. I thought of my hotdog book for the fair and how I used repetition with the circles and it hit me that I could just to that again with the lock. I like the white 'Modern World Slavery'. The white really brings the text and banner out.

BELLYBANDS

I think the bottom one will work best with book. I am going to go back to the book its self and centre the lock to that when the bellyband is on it will cover the lock on the front cover.

New front and back- website now put onto the back too. I took away the date as you get that information inside the publicatio. From printing out a mock up i can see that the text is perfectly legible and so are all the graphs & graphics.
I have got 'PLEASE VISIT...' on every page so that the point of getting online is more prominant. I am happy with his outcome and this brings me up to 6 products. 2XPOSTER// 1XHOTDOGBOOK// 3XPOSTCARDS
typo on 3rd graph

The final one I promise- fixed typos and on the back I thought it was also important to mention that these were estimates from the BBC ( Because that was were the information was found)

100 THINGS// Postcards// Charity Awareness

While flicking through the creative review blog I came across this and the lock images suddenly gave me an idea as I related it to slavery and being locked up. I then went to my design sheets and suddenly found an idea for my next product. I have decided to do a postcard for some sort of charity organisation. This could be just a made up organisation but to be honest I could just get away with making a logo and name.

I came up with some text to go on the postcard. 'Help them find their key to freedom'. The idea that if you join this charity you are helping these poor people in slavery find their key to a better life. The only thing I worry about is that this won't be a card full of imagery. In fact there won't be a representation of any humans, no slaves basically. I just plan on having a lock like shown on this piece here. The aim of this postcard is to make slavery aware to the mass. DOUBLESIDED?

The design above- Information - 'Directed by design collective National Television through Not To Scale for 4Creative, the animated promo for Channel 4's new, nightly game show, The Bank Job, draws inspiration from classic title sequences by Saul Bass and Otto Preminger...'  Follow this link to the blog : creativereview.the-bank-job-tv-promo

BACK- I am going to either put the bar chart from my poster or the triangle on the back only because i think as just having a black and white postcard by itself won't be pleasing and quite boring.

BACK

Example one, using black seems quite risky but at the moment I want the front to be black so who knows this might be a final design. I'm not sure about what type I am going to use for the title here as that will have to reflect on the final outcome of the front side. Using to many fonts will make things un-legible and to busy.

I have decided that I will do 2 or 3 postcards as I have a lot of information on my poster that can actually be used again on these postcards- So the aim is to scroll across three different backs and then create the front cover and then together I will have 2 double sided A5// A6 postcards

Here's another back I can use- information taken from the info graphics poster- I WON'T go onto use the pie chart poster for a back simply because the information is radically different to the information on the BBC inspired poster.

TYPO

I like the white against the black especially the 'for more information'. I went with the more conventional 'Bebas Neue' font on this one as that's been a font I've become quite fond of. For information graphics anyway. Its very legible and readable.

TYPO ON THEIR---must make sure I correct that
....because I have made wisdom script hollow you can see the serif in the next letter and for me its made the text less legible- Note to self : stop using wisdom script

First front cover- Works well, abit cheesy but I have had comments that it does work. Maybe this is too happy for a design concentrating on slavery- Looking at it now it has that fun look...
I'm not sure I will have to ask around for people opinions.

BEBAS works well on the back when you talking about serious facts and slavery- but on the front it looks much to serious- I'm finding it quite hard to explain. Visually for me it doesn't work so I thought I would blog it just to quickly show that even though this is a font I have been using repeatedly over this project, it won't work on this postcard.

Still not satisfied with the front cover- I believe its just a matter of going over and over the design until I find the right one.

I left the grid and rulers just to give you an idea of how to make correcting spacing. I'm going to leave this back white. It works well, the white space isn't bothering me too much.

I like the keyhole in the bottom corner- acts as a logo for ILO or even my title which is simply Modern Day Slavery- Which just gets straight to the point about what the leaflet is advertising.

I'm going to go ahead and use this lock on the back of everything so that when the audience is reading the back they will be reminded of the information on the front.

Barchart with new logo.

100 THINGS// Poster// The Increase in Slavery

FINAL outcome // POSTER

Final ^^. I went through it with a friend and there is most defiantly no typos which means its a finish design!

Here is the finished bar chart and 'worst areas' illustrations. obviously one human representation represents 1 million people, child or adult. The worst areas in the world are in human trafficking and child labour.
In conclusion to this poster I am happy most happy with legibility. I am also happy with the text used and the font. The only problem I face is I have only 1 week to finish everything. I must say that I think my time management has been messed around hugely due to other projects. It has been said that this is a brief which is very hard to fall behind on but fact is there is no excuse to not finishing it. I went to the print rooms and have changed my print times from this wednesday to Friday at 11am. This gives me an extra two days which will prove extremely useful. I also have to look back on other projects on 405 and maybe write a bit more about my work.

Final outcome. When I look at the poster is seems quite bottom heavy. Its hard to explain but the title is very light and so are the illustrations underneath it. However I do like the deign. I beleive its educational and legible.

I am going to move the triangle and the text above it and that way I will be able to fit something underneath it. Another fact or illustration possible. I have finally added that the results came from the BBC ( just under the triangle). I also forgot to put 'Sub Saharan Africa' into my bar chart so that has been added now.

I just need to redo my man illustrations and add some more vital text and I should be there. Also, the layout needs to be perfect before I can claim this is finished. I want to make a banner or some kind of background for the title too. As you can see I have changed my triangle information. I really wanted to stay with the top figure of 26 million because obviously thats a massive amount of people. I have done the right thing and gone with a more believable number ( and of course this number has come from the ILO and the BBC).

I've decided to run with the results that the BBC got from the ILO. They are radically different in size but then again are probably much more accurate compared to random blogs I found. This is proving to be a bit of a problem because in my other poster I have gone with my questionnaire which is fine but not with the ILO results. I have gone with a blog that says there are 26 million slaves world wide. I have stated on the poster that the results are from the BBC and I haven't on the piechart poster so I believe everything will be fine. This poster is better because it is broken up into different illustrations stressing the problem.

Here is the link to the BBC website which is high in information that will be reasonable and reliable-

I used a Triangle for this because you can relate it with getting higer of something rising. To get to the top you must climb, like the numbers of slaves in this modern age. I am happy with the font I am using. it is legible and bold and easy to be drawn to.

My new idea is to form a info graphics poster about the increase in slaves over the past 30 or 50 years. I'm doing this using this triangle and also some human representations I made on Illustrator. The poster will also contain information on slavery statistics  from 2012. I have located many blogs and websites for information

Hotdog Book// Final Outcome

In conclusion to this project I am overall happy. The only problem which actually is quite big was when it came to folding some of my booklets they didn't fold correctly. This was my own fault as I originally bought 5 pieces of A2 paper, soon to be cut in half to then have 10 A3s, I must have used a dodgy guillotine as the paper was off in terms of measurements. So when the book was folded up and closed the front over was slanted on the right had side, revealing the poster on the back. That really bothered me as some of the books look quite naff in a result of all that! But, I have learned that when cutting paper always be extra careful when doing so, or simply avoid cutting and by the paper you actually need.

There is a type on the front. However it works oddly. EnvirOment. Considering the booklet is about circles I guess it works!

100 THINGS// Carrier Shopping Bags

My new idea is so design a plastic bag for a clothing shop. It makes sense as if say 'Gap' had a plastic bags about how they are not involved in slave labour and say 10% of every purchase goes straight towards a charity and putting a stop to slavery then it would be heavily useful! I like the idea of my design being printed on a brown paper bag. It has a nicer feeling to it. Nicer texture.

These examples are more clever but through image are very relevant and conventional towards to point and cause.
