Responsive// Ted Baker Responsive// Men & Woman's Design and Packaging

The tiara will be gold foiling, very much the same as the mens, which will be a gold crown. Packing for both men's and woman's will be a nice matt finish. Nigel and I went down stairs to James in print and he recommended that that was the best type of packaging to go for, especially when its packaging for a perfume and cologne which will need to look very high end.
Ignoring the channel rubber logo at the top of the bottle, here is a quick mock up I made with the front stickers. I think we will be going with a simple white colour with gold foiling. Simple yet effective. I'm not sure if we want to have a purple or red label as its a bit too loud. I pictured having a very simple bottle and by going with the colours this has been accomplished.

Responsive// Ted Baker Collaboration// Workshop & New Ideas

To do list:
  • Look into Vogue Paris magazine.
  • Look into flocking for labels.
  • Expand on Shop and Share.
  • How does someone in another country get a taste of England whilst still feeling French?
  • Look at French prefume bottle (CHANEL)
  • Look into adding British Characteristics.
...................................................................................................................................................................

We have finally gone with two colours we like.
For the woman's Perfume : A Purple.
For the man's Cologne : A rich Red.

Both will have a gold foiling on the bottle its self and the packaging.
We are still keen to keep the little pockets where the bottles will go inside.

We Need to find out how big the perfume bottle is so we can go about making the packaging.
Considering we will not have the bottles for at least another week, this will impact on the time we have to produce out products.

With thanks to the other group we worked with we now have a very good idea of what we want to do and how we are going to do it.

Other Ideas.

  • Have Black 'Ted Baker' Cabs released into Paris.
  • Have Beefeaters out side the Ted Baker store.
  • Have a red iconic double decker bus going situated near the Ted Baker store where you can receive.

Type & Grid // Concertina Publication Task

For the 505 module we have to make a 16 page booklet on our research, I have decided to take the type and grid task and merge them together. This will not however be my final design for the 'what is good' brief as I want that to be a booklet instead of being a Concertina. The idea of this task is to on every double page spread to have a different kindS of grid. From this I will get a good understanding of different grid forms and how they are made. As you can see, I have started with the van der graaf grid.

Feedback on my Presentation Boards

BOARD ONE:
  • Re frase some sentences.
  • This board is broken up well into good subheadings however the board is a little to text heavy.
  • I like how the information has been broken down.
  • The way the information has been broken up into sections is very useful.
  • Are the bullet points relevant?
  • Maybe a bit too much information.
BOARD TWO:
  • I like the layout of the board. Good use of white space and the grid is very simple. If you wanted to push the board further you could experiment with layout design. You need to number the boards, so the viewer can see the order of you ideas.
  • Could maybe screen print the cover.
  • Some of the spacing within the text is off and not right.
  • Nice layout.
BOARD THREE
  • Could look into a wider range of binding methods. This board looks a bit samey as the methods of binding you have looked at is very similar.
BOARD FOUR
  • Clear and simple imagery, just the right amount of information.
  • Make the font size a bit different.
BOARD FIVE
  • Nice font used.
  • Nice format, easy to read and take in.
  • Again, good visual research. The imformaion is just the right amount.

Responsive// Ted Baker Collaboration// Packaging Design Experiments

I found this net in the book 'Structural Package Designs' which is quite a large publication with hundreds of different types of packaging which you can download from a disc that comes with the book. This particular packet I chose is very simple but thats what Nigel and I have decided to go with. From my secondary research I discovered that mens cologne and womans perfume packaging is of a very simple design.

I've been considering where I could add colour an i think on the top and bottom I could had the same olive green as on the logo. I really think to make this packaging stand out I could do some foiling, On the crown or maybe on something else. This packaging will be very bland and I'm not sure if thats the best way to go about this. Another thought I have is I am going with a different colour scheme to the one I wanted to go with in my research. The Rimmil London advert had many links with the union jack.
I just wanted to get an idea of what the packaging could possibly look like if it was a nice shinny gold colour, not too show how to acomplish that sort of finish but its something I can look into.

This is just the first step for our packaging. I am now going to sit down with Nigel and make some changes to it. We really need to buy some bottles though! The bottles that we bought came through but they are really small so we are pretty stuck in that sense.

In this example I decided to be a bit different. I wanted to add the colours of the union jack into the design as that is really want I should be doing! Even though I want to go with a simple colour palette I'm begging to think that we really need to bring the British colours into the design. There might be a way of foling the blue and red on to make the colours have a rich and wealthy look to them? These are all questions I need to look into. How the packaging will look off the computer.

Nigel came up with a great idea. Usually on cologne and perfume bottles it will have 'For Her' or 'For Him' written on the bottle and the packaging. Nigel cam up with 'For His Majesty' and 'For Her Majesty'. Personally I really like it because it links in again with the royal family. I think the logo should remain the same as it is simple and easy to understand. Its just the colours we have to get sorted! Its very tricky coming up with the final colour scheme, especially when their are so many colours I want to run with anyway.

Poster

Here a promotional poster that will help the book become recognized. I've simply took the book cover, put it over to photoshop and made to poster a bit longer so I could but the small bit of information down at the bottom. Next thing to do is put the poster into context to see how it will look in the real world. I'm not too sure where it should go though, I guess around town centres or even tube stations, people are always reading books on the train so that could make sense!

Type & Grid Workshop TWO// Workshop & Task

Creating your own grid from this sequence

To make your rulers perfect youmust divide  the top and bottom by 2 to find the middle, to find 1/4 down the page or 3/4 down the page divide the middle by the top to find 1/4 and middle by the bottom to find 3/4. Very useful and easy when creating a perfect grid that is reliable.

Workshop task : Create you own double page spread.
