What is Good// Development of Concept ONE

During the crit and presentation it was clear that people liked the tent idea to most, I on the other hand had no idea  how to go about this and considering my screen printing skills were none excistant I decided I would go with concept one which was to make the book, or the 'Introduction to....Camping.

So now that I know which concept I am happy with I need to look into great depth to what my content will be. The publication I know is all about the key benefits of camping. Hence WHAT IS GOOD about camping, the BENEFITS of camping are WHAT IS GOOD. But that will only take up a few pages. I also want to make a guide or introduction to camping, the semiotics of camping, the activities you can do an enjoy when camping.

Job now:
  • Find Content
  • Make Cover
  • Laser Cut front and back cover.

What is Good// Workshop & Crit

Concept 1

Concept 1 was the idea I have had since the beginning. To make an introduction book to camping. The front cover would be wooden and lasercut, and the pages would be lamainated with a matt stock. One idea was to screen print my pages with glow in the dark ink so the book could be read at night time.

Concept 2

Concept 2 is my favriote but is the hardest to do and the hardest to think about doing! I would love to make a tent or mock up a tent thats inside has the mental benefits and physical benefits of camping screen printed on the inside. The tent would include a whole other range of products including zine, t-shirts and torch etc.

Concept 3

Concept 3 was quickly thought up but could work. Because mental and physical benefits are to do with your health. I thought I could make some sort of medicine. In this case a bandage, suggesting that this information 'heals you'. You would unravel the bandage to find the content.

Responsive// Evaluation

What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

The main skill I have achieved in this module is time and project managment. Considering it was up to us how much work we went on to do, this meant we had to be 100% sure that we could finish it all. I decided to go with seven briefs which i felt was enough for me to handle. Overall, I have been good when it has come to my management. Another key strength I have identified is working in a team. I suppose Nigel was very easy to work with, but now I know that the next time I have to work in a team I will be confident from the start, and hopefully my confidence will show to my peers.

What approaches to methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

When it came to this module, it was all about the brief and how you re-write it. Re-writing was difficult as you had so much control over it. Most of the time I kept the brief the same. I much prefer doing a brief that someone has written for me, I am not a fan of making up my own as I get to obsessed with wanting it to be perfect. Once the brief was done and I knew what I had to do, the next step for me was getting on the design sheets and getting what was in my head on to paper. I would also go on the internet and find some blogs to get some much needed inspiration. So, the main strength I have developed from these methods is re-writting briefs, even though I am not a fan, it is something I must get used to and soon enjoy.
What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

My main strength has been attention to detail and products produced in the collaboration part of the module. Nigel and I went to full swing when it came to completing the breof. We produced so much for this brief, from the product to the packaging. We also did more and put our posters into context. I also decided to make products for 3 other briefs including the Big Sleep, Secret 7" & HellFire. When you produce products for your work you get a real sense of really finishing the brief.

What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?

This time I feel my main weakness is my grammar and punctuality. Because a lot of this brief was to do with presentation boards and large amount of text. I was very. very prone to spelling words incorrect and getting my grammar wrong. The amount of times I uploaded boards to Issuu to find spelling mistakes was tiresome. Even when I look over my work a thousand times they always pop up. My only worry with this module is my Summary Report because I have a feeling grammar and spelling might be incorrect. I feel the best way to address this problem in the future is make someone look over my boards to find spelling errors. Its just who will want to look through everything I have done? This is something must workout.

Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
  • Number one will be attention to spelling and grammar, theres nothing my frustration for someone reading your work to discover a typo, it gives a false image of the designer.
  • Being ready for crits, this was something that was on my list last time, I never seem to be on the same page as crits.
  • Make more products. This time round I have been very good with experimenting with products and print processes. However, I can go further.
  •  Screen Printing, being something I can do next time. Never got round to it. I will gain an understanding of the process and the look you get from it.
  • Show my work to people more often and get their opinion. This way I will get feedback more often which will always make your design better.

Responsive// Ted Baker 5 Boards

Responsive Feedback Workshop

During this workshop we had to get into our collaboration twos and review the work of our peers.

The Big Sleep

Simple concept of the book. Appropriate typeface chosen for blurb. Good Choice of colour. It would have been nice to see mock up of book. Could have experimented more with print processes.

Secret 7"

Well Mocked up. Brief did say not to use name of artist or lyrics.

Hellfire

Really well mocked up bottles. Check for spelling mistakes on boards. image goes over text.

Logo Briefs.

Trades choice is the most successful and follow the concept of the brief. Could push the breifs a little bit more

Ted Baker

Strenghts: Well mocked up products. Foling makes products look expensive. Well presented and photographed boards.
Weaknesses: Maybe too risky using the channel bottle shape- It is such a classic bottle and would go against copyright. Improve on mocking up books as they are quite flimsy.

Strenghts: Broad range of work, it is good you actually have printed mock up to show. You get a better idea of the brief. Lots of different process used throughout the briefs.

Areas for improvement : Number boards! This will improve organisation. Fix typos on boards. There is too much text on some of the boards

5 THINGS WE LEARNED DURING RESPONSIVE OUGD503

1) PROJECT MANAGEMENT
2)ORGANISATION
3)WORKING AS A TEAM
4)HOW TO DECONSTRUCT A BREIF
5)MAKING WORK LOOK PROFESSIONAL.
